OAO MOSENERGO is currently the largest generating company operating on fossil fuel. The power plants of OAO MOSENERGO have installed electricity capacity of 10,600 MW and thermal capacity of 39,000 MW. OAO MOSENERGO is the largest thermal generation company in the world.

The 120-year history of OAO MOSENERGO is inextricably linked to the history of our country. Employees from the Moscow power sector were responsible for the establishment of Russia's unified energy system, the development and implementation of the GOELRO [State Commission for the Electrification of Russia] plan.

The generating company OAO MOSENERGO works constantly on technical development issues. OAO MOSENERGO has developed with the assistance of the Russian Academy of Science a Programme for Development and Technical Re-equipment. The underlying principles were subsequently implemented in the investment programmes of other generating companies. Currently OAO MOSENERGO is involved in major construction and design projects for generating capacities in the Russian power industry.

The Programme for Development and Technical Re-equipment of the Company stipulates the transfer of power generating plants to state-of-the-art gas-steam combined cycle technology, making it possible to enhance substantially operating efficiency, increase energy savings and improve environmental ratios.
